    Leveraging diversity and building an inclusive work environment is no easy feat! When developing a D&I strategy, there are several essential components that an organization needs to consider to be successful. This session will guide you through the fundamental steps to create a diversity and inclusion strategy. Through four distinct case-studies, you will gain tips in building a strategic framework for diversity and inclusion and reflect on how these apply to your own organization.

    You will learn to:

    • Train and sensitize your employees
    • Understand elements of a diverse work group and map which ones will fit your business plan
    • Include diversity initiatives in the organization’s values, vision, marketing plans, public image of the organization.
    • Avoid stereotyping people and cultures

    VeLois Bowers, Principal Consultant and owner of VHB Diversity and Inclusion Consulting Firm, recently retired as Vice President, Diversity and Inclusion for CHRISTUS Health, Dallas, Texas.  VeLois led the development and implementation of short and long-term strategies, plans and programs within CHRISTUS Health’s Diversity and Inclusion workplan. VeLois has previously held executive leadership roles for over 20 years as the head of diversity and inclusion in several major organizations such as Trinity Health.  There she was instrumental in launching their health disparity initiative to ensure that all patients are given equitable care as they enter each Trinity Health facility.  She worked for the Kellogg Company as their Vice President of Diversity and Inclusion after spending five years at the Whirlpool Corporation, where she served as Vice President of Global Diversity.  Prior to Whirlpool, VeLois held several human resources roles throughout her career including Director for Staffing and Employee Relations, Manager of EEO and Affirmative Action, and HR Business Partner to numerous corporate divisions.

    VeLois earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB).  She also holds a Certificate in Diversity Management from Georgetown University, Washington D.C. She is a member of several boards and professional organizations.
