HR Privacy Concerns

Brianna Cook, J.D.

Gill Ragon Owen, P.A.

It has been predicted that privacy will surpass wrongful termination as the hot workplace issue of the 21st century. Yet the concept of privacy is so broad and so elusive, it’s difficult even to define. Privacy rights come up in situations involving drug testing, blogs, searches of electronic mail and files, hair and dress codes, arrest records, credit reports and other off-duty conduct. Learn how to protect yourself and your organization from privacy violations.

During this interactive session you will:

  • Learn what goes into employee files; what stays out and who has access
  • Employee rights regarding off-duty conduct
  • Review hot-button issues related to social media and employee monitoring
  • Material will aid HR Assistants and others who benefit from fundamental skills and knowledge will be presented. This offers mentoring opportunities that are critical to employee development.
